Triumphant Soror Cecilia Adeline Cooper King

Triumphant Soror King attended Morgan State College in Baltimore and received her B.A degree at Howard University in 1906. After her graduation from Howard, Mrs. King returned to Liberia and became secretary to the then Liberia president, Daniel Howard. She married Charles D.B. King in 1912, who was then attorney general of the country, becoming his second wife.


Mr. and Mrs. King became friends of President Woodrow Wilson at the Paris Peace Confence and the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Her husband was then serving as Secretary of State and he would go on to serve 4 2-year terms as President of Liberia. Mrs. King accompanied her husband to the United States in 1947, he became ambassador to the US in 1949. This was the same year that Triumpant Soror King became an honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.


Soror King died at the age of 58 at the Liberian Embassy in Washington, DC. while her husband was serving as ambassador.
